The Heart & Eyes Behind Lyons Optometry
Vision goes far beyond an eye chart; it’s about knowing where you want to go and why. My vision has always been to help people live their best life by helping them with their sight, as my doctor once helped me.
As a kindergartener, school wore me out; I often fell asleep in school and after school I would sleep for hours. My parents sought out different specialists to explain my fatigue but all my tests were normal.
Meet Dr.
Kimberly Lyons
“Someone suggested that I see a vision specialist - even though my vision was normal.”
That proved to be the key. Dr. Richard Pozil diagnosed me with visual efficiency deficiency and through my grade school years, we spent hours working on focusing, tracking and other visual efficiency techniques. Dr. Pozil had a huge impact on my life. He made school easy and fun. He taught me how influential an eye doctor can be.
Years later I knew I wanted to go into medicine and went to UCLA planning to become a cardiologist, but something felt off. I knew I needed to love my profession. One day it just clicked: I knew I wanted to be an optometrist, and everything felt right.
As a 4th year optometry student, I presented a research project at a symposium of doctors and students. While sitting in the audience, I noticed a man who looked familiar but that I could not place. During the break I ran into this man in the lobby. It was Dr. Pozil. It was his 50th anniversary of graduating from the optometry school I was attending and he knew who I was, even though it had been several years. It felt like everything had come full circle. I got to tell him that he was the reason I had chosen optometry as my profession. I thanked him for his impact in my life.
So Why Do I Do What I Do?
Now as an optometrist I can improve my patients’ lives by helping them with their eye problems, such as cataracts or macular degeneration, or helping them love the way they see and feel with their eyewear.

Dr. Kimberly Lyons is a California native and was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Physiological Science from UCLA in 1999. In 2005, Dr. Lyons earned her Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry.
She has worked as an Optometrist at both the United States Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles, as well as the U.S. Naval base of Camp Pendleton. Prior to her relocation to Sonoma County, during the previous 6 years, she had served as Executive Director and Optometrist of a leading Ophthalmology Practice in Newport Beach, California. She feels very fortunate for her work within the Ophthalmology center as it provided a unique base of medical experience only a limited number of Optometrists gain.

Vanessa
Front Desk Coordinator
Vanessa has been an essential part of our team since 2017, and what can we say? We truly hit the jackpot with her! Chances are, when you call to make an appointment, Vanessa’s friendly voice is the first one you’ll hear and her vibrant personality shines throughout the entire office. Known as our contact lens guru, Vanessa is a pro when it comes to base curves, billing, insurance, and making sure your lenses are ready to go. She keeps our front desk running smoothly and is basically the quarterback of our team (and yes she’s a proud RAIDERS! fan).
A Sonoma County native, Vanessa loves spending her time off with her two kids whether they’re watching sports, hiking, or enjoying a drive along the coast. Outside of work, she wears many hats, including chef extraordinaire! Her warm hospitality and genuine eagerness to help (and feed!) everyone around her are just a few of the reasons we’re so lucky to have her as part of our dream team.
Melissa
Scheduling & Patient Coordinator
Melissa joined the Lyons Optometry team in 2020, bringing with her a wealth of experience from her career in the medical field, which began in 2015. In 2018, she transitioned into ophthalmology, where she discovered her passion for eye care. Since then, she has continued to expand her expertise and is now an integral part of our team. At Lyons Optometry, Melissa keeps our front desk running seamlessly, greeting patients with a warm smile as she checks them in for their appointments. In addition to her administrative duties, she has recently taken on the role of overseeing medical billing. making her the go-to person for any related questions.
Outside the office, Melissa enjoys cycling around Windsor (give her a wave if you see her!) and cherishes time spent with her husband and their two wonderful boys. We are truly grateful to have Melissa as part of our dream team.
Cristina
Office Manager
Meet Cristina, our warm and welcoming Office Manager. You’re likely to notice her bright smile and magnetic personality the moment you walk through our doors. Raised in the Bay Area, Cristina’s lifelong love for eyewear naturally led her into a career where she gets to help others find their perfect fit. With a background rooted in fashion and art, Cristina brings a creative eye and a heart full of care to everything she does. Her passion for serving the community, supporting her peers, and connecting with patients makes her an invaluable part of our team. Outside of the office, Cristina cherishes time with her children, especially beach-hopping along the coast. She’s also an avid home cook and music festival enthusiast who thrives on good energy and positive vibes. And when football season rolls around, you’ll find her cheering loudly for her team — go Niners!
Since 2007, Cristina has been dedicated to the optical industry. In her own words: “This industry has taught me the true value of vision and how essential it is to care for our eyes. I feel incredibly fulfilled when I see patients leave with confidence and ability to see the world and all its colors just as they’re meant to.”
Heather
Optician
Heather joined the team at the beginning of 2021 having moved back to Northern California from the greater Seattle area. She has been in the optical industry since 2002 and is an ABO certified optician. Heather received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California San Diego. She enjoys forming relationships with patients and seeing them return throughout the years with family members and friends. She loves to help people find that perfect pair of unique, stylish frames and lenses that suit their lifestyle. Seeing patients' happiness when they pick up their new pair of glasses is truly rewarding! When she’s not at the office, she spends time with her husband, young son, and doggies exploring Northern California. Including the yummy wineries!
Ana
Optician
Ana has been with our office since 2021 and has been an optician in the optical field for 10 years. She is certified through the American Board of Opticianry and is a registered spectacle dispenser. With her bubbly and fun personality, Ana makes the frame selection and ordering process a breeze for everyone! She loves animals, especially her two dogs, and enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends in her spare time. Ana is also fluent in Spanish. She looks forward to helping you find the perfect pair of specs on your next visit and can't wait to meet you!
Maria
Optician
Meet Maria, one of our skilled Opticians. Born and raised in Santa Rosa, Maria brings over 20 years of experience in the medical field and more than a decade in the optical world. Her love for fashion and keeping up with the latest trends makes her a natural at helping patients find eyewear that feels current and true to them. Outside of the office, Maria enjoys life as a proud mom and treasures time with her family including her beloved fur babies. She’s bilingual in Spanish, which allows her to connect with and support even more of our community. When she’s not at Lyons, you’ll likely find her listening to music, out on a hike, at a pilates class, or winding down with her favorite reality TV show (yes, she’s a big 90 Day Fiancé fan!).
